Getting the workbench on camera

Overhead video and recorded audio passed their checks, but the camera boom exposed a mechanical problem.

Record date Sep 19, 2026 · Published

The documentation setup became usable. An OBS recording and playback check established acceptable overhead video, intelligible captured speech, and synchronized audio and video for recording the build.

The mounting arrangement was less successful. The chosen extension boom expected a tripod interface rather than providing the complete standalone mounting solution we had anticipated. An existing photography tripod and an adapter made the connection possible.

During positioning, the boom’s pivot lock failed to hold the required angle reliably. The session recorded an improvised duct-tape retention workaround that allowed documentation work to continue. The lock itself was not repaired or qualified by that workaround.

The journal retained this as an unresolved reference-design problem. The improvised assembly was not adopted as a mounting design for others to reproduce; a proper replacement was still needed.

The useful outcome was twofold: recording could begin, and the documentation now included a mechanical failure that would otherwise be easy to lose behind a successful camera test.
